It doesn’t matter much if you own a huge or a small kitchen, what matters is whether it is organized or not. Being a very essential part of our lives, it is used frequently. So if it is arranged in a proper manner, it will definitely increase the cooking efficiency by reducing a time which is normally spent locating different items.
However, kitchen organization might seem like a daunting task. But don’t you worry, here are a few tips to get you going.
Get Rid of the Useless Items
If you are fed up of your messy and unorganized kitchen where it is hard to find the right products or utensils at the right time, the first thing you should do is decluttering. Take out everything from your shelves and cabinets and separate the useful and useless items. You don’t want to keep broken utensils, duplicate items, expired spices, etc.; therefore, place them in a separate carton. After this screening process, you can go back to your carton and decide what to with all that stuff. You can either discard it, keep it in your store, or maybe donate it.You want to make sure pests cannot attack.
Organize the cabinets after grouping like Items
After removing the unnecessary items, now you are left with only what is required. So group them according to your preferences. The two major categories in which you can distribute items are baking products and utensils (cooking items and eating/drinking items). You can make further sub-categories by grouping the dishes and glassware which are used on daily basis, the items which are reserved only for guests, and those special crockery pieces which are only used on the special occasions. Use your imagination, preference and liking to make groups which suit best to you.
Once you are done with grouping, decide the storage place. Baking products and cooking utensils should be placed near the stove because it will save a lot of time. Dishes, plates, bowls, and other utensils which are used on a daily basis are best suited near the preparation area. Glassware can be kept near a refrigerator, sink, or a water dispenser. The items which are hardly used can be placed in cupboards. And don’t forget to set up a coffee station with mugs, sugar, etc. and if possible try to place it near a water source.
Use transparent clear containers for storage
It is always a good idea to keep your food items—spices, beans, peas, lentil, salt, cereals, cocoa, etc.—in clear containers. Using containers for storage purposes not only help organize but also look good. Moreover, it is easy to keep a record of the supplies if you are using a clear container. Another advantage is that items remain fresh and pests cannot attack them.
Make use of ceiling and walls
If you have a small kitchen, you must consider using a kitchen utensils hanger or a rack. You can either mount it to your ceiling or a wall to hang your cooking items. Alternatively, you can use the space underneath your cabinets for holding mugs, glassware, or spoons by installing hooks.
An organized kitchen is not only pleasing to look at but also make cooking easy. So make the recommended changes for a hassle-free cooking experience.
