Population

Ancaster is the 4th largest community in Hamilton. Interesting to know that about 7% of the total population of Hamilton live in Ancaster area. From 1991 to 2006, increase in population was about 11,247 individuals. In 2006, the population was 33,235 while in 1991 it was 22012.  Average population increase rate during past 15 years in Ancaster is upto 2.8%. The fastest growing period was from 2001-2006 during which population growth rate was reported 3.9% per year. Also, central area of Ancaster is considered a major growth area. Population in 2016 was 113,034 with 3.2% increase from 2011.

 

Communities in the city

Now, Ancaster has second highest proportion of visible minorities and number of visible minorities have been increased from 6% (in 1996) to 10% (in 2006). After Hamilton, it is the community with 2nd highest % of visible minorities groups. During this period, number of minorities has been increased from 1320 to 3320 individuals. Among these minorities South Asian people are 29%, Chinese are 26% (both are the largest groups in city) while in other groups black Arabs and West Asians are included.

 

Median Household income

Median income is a point at which half population earns more and half population earns less. This is a better measure than the average income, as it is not earned 10 or 20 times by some residents who are others in the area. In each census during the period 1996–2006, Ancaster had the highest personal average income in the city, standing at $37,000 in 2006.

 

No of residents:

According to 2016 census out of 95,070 people about 48,855 residents are married but 40,555 individuals are unmarried. Number of separated (2535), divorced (5145) and widowed people are very low.  In Ancaster, Couples living with children are 14,700 in number while 11740 are without children.

 

 Statistics

1992 Canadian Survey of Family Expenses determined that average Canadians spent about 35% of their income on food, clothing, and shelter. Statistics Canada concluded that a family who spent (i.e., 20 percentage points more) was living in mandatory circumstances than half their income. As a result, it has adopted 55 percent of income as a cutoff point: families who spend more than 55% of their income have much to spend on transportation, health, personal care, education, household operations, and recreation. While some spend on Insurance and other maintenance services.

 

Culture

Gem of Canadian history, Ancaster heritage village hosts event of Christmas tree lightning at Ancaster Old town hall. Also, this village hosts Great pumpkin walk on Halloween day for enjoyment. There are many historical buildings of 18s in village where Ancaster Heritage Days take place every June and people celebrate the area’s vibrant history.

 

Every year from mid-June to mid-October all residents of the city bring fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese baked goods, wines for sale in Ancaster Farmers Market.

 

Real estate:

Ancaster houses for sale are more affordable than ever. Normal new home available for purchase in Ancaster sells at a normal price of $791,000. That is a 6.5% abatement since a year ago. Most Ancaster apartment suites sell in the range $368,000-$515,000, which is an extraordinary incentive for families hoping to move outside the city when they scale down. Townhomes are located directly in the center, with a normal price somewhere in a range of $430,000 – $579,000, on the basis of their size.
