Edmonton

It is the capital city of Alberta. Edmonton is situated on the North Saskatchewan River and is surrounded by the central area of Alberta. The city has strong roots at the north end which is normally regarded as the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor. Edmonton is also famous with many other names that are: Festival City of Canada, Oil capital city of Canada, City of Champions, etc. It is considered as the 5th largest municipality of Canada and the 2nd largest city of Alberta with respect to population. A person living in the city of Edmonton is known as Edmontonian. The educational cultural and historical center of Canada is Edmonton as it is home to the largest living history museum of Canada i.e. Fort Edmonton Park and it also hosts a number of festivals that are reflected by its nickname.

 

Population and Demographics

The city of Edmonton holds a population of 972,223 peoples. There is a total of 387,550 number of dwellings in the area that are private and the peoples are inhabiting only 360,828 number of dwellings. It does not have a very high population density and is considered as a calm and peaceful place for living. You can enjoy the peace here and also the facilities present in the capital city at the same time.

About 50.2 percent of peoples are male and 49.8 percent are females. The number of peoples living per household is 2 to 3.

 

Cultures in the City

European ethnicities are inhabiting the city normally and are about 55.8 percent. The most common of these are German, Scottish, Irish, English, Ukrainian, French, Polish, etc. Other ethnic groups include African about 6.1 percent, South Asian, Canadian, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Caribbean, West central Asian, and middle. About 6.4 percent of peoples are Metis.

Finest and the most vibrant neighborhoods are located in Edmonton like Capital Boulevard area, River’s edge area, Jasper Avenue, McKay avenue, Canora, Elmwood, Sherwood, West Meadowlark, High Park, Glenmore, Rio Terrace etc. All these are included in the residential communities that should be opted for living.    

 

Educational Background of city

There is three school district in Edmonton that offers education from kindergarten to grade 12. Majority of the students go to two school boards i.e. Edmonton Public School and Edmonton Catholic school district. Greater North Central Francophone Educational Region No. 2 organizes the Schools of Francophone minority community. Private schools are also working in the city such as Edmonton Academy, Tempo school, and Progressive Academy. Public Schools in Edmonton are famous for pioneering the notion of site base decision-making capability in the whole Canada. Mill woods Christian school and Edmonton society for Christians education are regarded as private schools but they are also included in the public schools for hosting different alternative programs. A long list for post-secondary institutions is also present in Edmonton.

MacEwan University, Concordia University of Edmonton, King’s University, NorQuest college are also working in the city. Athabasca University that is publically funded also has a campus in the city of Edmonton.
