It is in the area where the south and the north Thompson River meet with each other. In the Northeast corner, there are hiking trails, numerous skis run, and bike park of the Sun Peak Resort. In its East, a wildlife park is present that is the home of Cougars and bears.

 

Neighborhoods in Kamloops:

Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a beautiful and pleasant area of Kamloops. It is on the Southside of the valley. In its North, there is Trans-Canada highway and in its East, there is Princeton-Kamloops Highway. There are many great choices for residential areas. Single-family homes and large townhouses are located in the upper Aberdeen area. Small townhouses and condominiums are situated in the lower Aberdeen area. Some communities also contain small detached houses. It has many parks for recreation such as Aberdeen Hills Park, Hugh Allan Park, Highland Park, Aberdeen Hills Skyline Park, and Aberdeen Hills Golf Links.

 

Westsyde:

It is a residential area that is situated along the west bank of Thompson river. Westsyde is few minutes drive away from North side of the Downtown core. There are breathtaking views of the riverside, mountains, and surrounding hills. It has Grassland Park located near Downtown with an area of 15,000 hectares. Many community associations and events happen every year in Westsyde.

 

South Kamloops:

In the West and East side of this neighborhood, Downtown core and many small neighborhoods are present. There are many older and heritage homes in the area that ranges from bigger to smaller. Detached single family houses are in throughout the area. There are many things to do here that makes it a perfect place to live. It has many dining and retail options. Schools, restaurants, parks, hospitals are all in the nearby amenities on walking distance. To host or watch the softball tournaments, there is an “Exhibition Park” that is just perfect for it. For the night games it has lights. There are also announcer’s booth, dugouts, concession, and bleachers.

 

Rayleigh:

It is located between North Thompson river and Yellowhead highway (highway 5), in the North of the city. It is a family-oriented community. This community is very private and quiet. Kamloops and this neighborhood is separated by the Native Reserve land. There are also some riverfront properties in this area. Downtown is almost on the drive of twenty minutes from here.

 

Facts

There were approximately 3000 members of the Shuswap tribe -first inhabitants of Kamloops- that spread throughout the city in past. Its name comes from the Secwepemc word, T’kemlups, which means “meeting of waters” due to its beautiful location where Thompson River is formed by the meeting of North Thompson and South Thompson. In 1811, first time Europeans arrived here. Due to its river, Kamloops was famous for the trade route. There are only two places in Canada where two national railways connect with each other inside the city limits, out of which one is Kamloops. This city is hosting over150 tournaments annually. That is the reason Kamloops is known as the Tournament capital of Canada.
