In 1888-1890, the first hospital that was built in this region was Medicine Hat General Hospital. It was the only hospital between Winnipeg and Vancouver and, in the entire Northwest Territories. The Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation was established in 1996 due to the distribution and management of the donations meant for the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and Community Health Services.
